Suspect in Homecoming Queen Murder Charged

Knoxville police charged a teenager in the death of a former Alabama homecoming queen whose body was found in a lake.

Police spokesman Darrell Debusk said 19-year-old Valentino Vasquez Miranda was charged with first-degree felony murder on Wednesday morning in the killing of 21-year-old Jennifer Lee Hampton.

DeBusk said Miranda has been held in jail since Sept. 27, when he was arrested for forgery.

The murder charge was filed four days after Hampton’s body was identified and 12 days after the young woman from Waterloo, Ala., disappeared from a local motel.
